What this is (and isn't)
solarpilled is a solar research resource for homeowners who want real information, not a sales funnel.
We are not a solar company
We don't install panels. We don't sell equipment. We don't get paid when you sign a contract with an installer. That distinction matters because it means our analysis has no financial incentive to be anything other than accurate.
Our approach
- → Data first. Every claim we make comes with numbers, sources, and methodology. If we're estimating, we say so.
- → No BS. The solar industry has a marketing problem. We skip the hype and focus on what actually matters for your decision.
- → Honest trade-offs. Solar isn't perfect for everyone. We'll tell you when it doesn't make sense, and why.
- → Tools over content. Analysis you can read is good. Calculators you can use with your own numbers are better.
Why this exists
When we started researching solar for our own homes, we found a landscape of content designed to generate leads, not inform decisions. SEO-optimized fluff from companies that make money when you buy panels.
The good information existed — in utility filings, academic papers, and scattered forum posts. But nobody was putting it together in a way that respected the reader's time and intelligence.
That's what solarpilled is. The resource we wished existed.
How we sustain this
Quality research takes time. We plan to sustain this through newsletter sponsorships and clearly-disclosed affiliate relationships — never pay-to-play rankings or misleading comparisons. Trust is the product. The moment we compromise it, nothing else works.
